About
Farewell 2023 Edition
All good things come to an end. With the untimely passing of our founding visionary, Kelly Boyker, also comes the end for Menacing Hedge. This will be our final issue, and instead of enumerating all the writers here, we encourage you to go the the home page and read them all. It will be worth your time.
We never could have imagined going in what an amazing group of people this endeavor would bring together. In our decade-and-change, we have published over 600 (!!!) individual contributors and hosted five in-person readings across the United States. More importantly, we have been the first publishing credit for dozens of emerging writers and artists, and made some lifelong friends in the process.
We would like to extend once more our eternal gratitude to all the writers and artists who have entrusted us with their work, and to editors Amanda Gowin, Kiara McMorris, and Craig Wallwork, all of whom played a big role in keeping the submissions under control and attracting even more great writers to our little project.
Kelly, may you rest in peace. You will always be loved.
Editors
Kelly Boyker: Poetry Editor
Kelly Boyker was a founding editor of Menacing Hedge, most interested in visceral persona poetry with a dark underside. Her work has appeared in numerous publications and she has contributed to a number of anthologies. She is the author of Zoonosis (Hyacinth Girl Press 2014). When not editing MH, she enjoyed gaming with other poets and their spouses.
Amanda Gowin: Fiction Editor
Amanda Gowin lives in the foothills of Appalachia with her husband, son, two dogs, and bantam hens ad infinitum. Her fiction has appeared in anthologies such as Warmed & Bound, Burnt Tongues, and Gutted: Beautiful Horror Stories, as well as her own collection, Radium Girls, and Serious Moonlight with Craig Wallwork. She has always written and always will.
Craig Wallwork: Fiction Editor Emeritus
Craig Wallwork lives with his family in Yorkshire, England. He writes mostly in the horror and crime genre, and is the author of several books including the Tom Nolan series of detective novels, and the short story collection Human Tenderloin. He was the fiction editor at Menacing Hedge for four years. You can find out more about Craig on his website: craigwallwork.com.
Kiara McMorris: Poetry Editor
Kiara hails from the Emerald City and spends much of her time working out, eating, and being an overall badass. She is typically unimpressed with most, but is a non stop talking machine once she starts to discuss her passions like travel and social justice. She has been writing poetry off and on since childhood and does not shy away from abstract thought. You can find her drinking a beer at a dive bar or doing weird burlesque things on stage.
Gio Guillemette: Technical Director
Technology and reading have always been magical to me, so it is an honor to put our editors' vision to the (virtual) page. My aim is to make the site feel as much like a simple piece of paper as I can. No distractions, just you and the writing. I hope you enjoy the result.
