E-book Version Instructions

Expecting to be marooned on a desert island? Don't let the lack of internet keep you from getting your literary fix. You'll have plenty enough to worry about as it is.

Kindle

If you have not already done so, configure your Kindle account to allow Personal Documents.

  1. Log in to the Amazon site and select "Manage Your Kindle."
  2. On the left of the screen, under "Your Kindle Account," select "Personal Document Settings."
  3. In "Send-to-Kindle E-Mail Settings," create an email address for your Kindle.

Now that your Kindle account is configured, load it up with Menacing Hedge.

  1. On the Menacing Hedge home page, click the Kindle logo to download the e-book version.
  2. Find the downloaded file on your hard drive. It's called MenacingHedge(version).mobi.
  3. Send the .mobi file as an attachment to your Kindle's email address.
  4. If you're impatient, you can select "Sync & Check for Items" on your Kindle. It does sometimes take a minute or two to become available.
  5. N.B. Amazon charges 15 cents (US; we have no idea what the charges are elsewhere) for Personal Document delivery.

Nook

  1. On the Menacing Hedge home page, click the Nook logo to download the e-book version.
  2. Find the downloaded file on your hard drive. It's called MenacingHedge(version).epub.
  3. Connect your Nook to your computer and wait for the Nook Drive to mount.
  4. Copy the .epub file to the Nook's "My Documents" folder.
  5. On the Nook itself, go to "My Library."
  6. Tap "View My Documents."
  7. Tap "Check for New Content" and select the Menacing Hedge edition.

iBooks (iPhone/iPad)

  1. On the Menacing Hedge home page, click the iBooks logo to download the e-book version.
  2. Find the downloaded file on your hard drive. It's called MenacingHedge(version).epub.
  3. Open iTunes
  4. Drag the .epub file to the Books icon in iTunes (left sidebar, under Library).
  5. Connect your iPhone/iPad to your computer and wait for iTunes to sync.

Not working?

  1. Select your iPhone/iPad in iTunes
  2. Select the Books tab at the top
  3. Make sure "Sync Books" is checked. Either choose "All Books" or ensure you have checked the box for Menacing Hedge.
  4. Press Sync at the bottom right of the screen.
  5. N.B. The iBooks app must be downloaded to your iPhone/iPad from the App Store.

Sony Reader

  1. Sony Reader uses the Kindle format. On the Menacing Hedge home page, click the Kindle logo to download the e-book version.
  2. Find the downloaded file on your hard drive. It's called MenacingHedge(version).mobi.
  3. Connect the Sony Reader to your computer.
  4. Open the Reader Library application (you can find it at ebookstore.sony.com/download).
  5. Copy the .mobi file to the Reader's "My Documents" folder.
  6. Sync your Reader.

Other

Most readers support the ePUB format, so download that version from the Menacing Hedge home page, and follow the directions that came with your device or your reader software.
